I hear it's a bank holiday in UK today. Jim's been chatting on the phone to his Mum. She was telling him what a lovely day it was: 17 degrees. He was telling her how cold and chilly is was here: yup - 17 degrees.

If ever I doubted that leaving UK to live in Oz was a good idea then the movie I saw today would remind me. 'This is England' is set in 1983, Mrs Thatcher's Britain: the Falklands war, high unemployment, skinheads, racism. Good music though!

That was quite a contrast to the morning which I spent at the Perth Art Gallery visiting the Egyptian Exhibition on loan from the Louvre. It made me wonder what will be left to show of our civilization in the centuries to come. Plastic bags and toxic waste? Let's hope not.
