I've been dreaming of desserts again but at least this time I can trace the cause. I am currently reading a book about the history of spelling. It's called Spellbound by James Essinger. I'd just reached the fascinating bit where he discusses the role of Proto-Indo-European and mentions that it's commonly abbreviated as PIE. Immediately, I had one of those Homer Simpson moments "Mmm, pie..." Shortly afterwards I nodded off, still thinking of pies.
Despite another week of healthy eating and no alcohol, my weight has actually increased. It's just not fair!

Happy Chinese New Year and welcome to the year of the pig. I really don't think there is anything I can say to follow that but I may be able to use it as an excuse in twelve months time if I have failed to achieve my goal of looking like Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders. Maybe I should hold off on buying the black leather outfit for now, but just until I am a bit taller. In the meantime I'll try whistling 'Brass in Pocket' twice before breakfast everyday.

It's just not fair. For a dozen days now I have eaten only healthy foodstuffs. No alcohol has passed my lips. NO ice-cream has been consumed. And yet, and yet my weight continues to climb.
Last night I dreamt I was being fed pecan pie by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. It had a cute pastry lattice on the top and was oozing with sugar. Just as I was about to take the first bite, the damn alarm went off. If this was the dessert course I'd probably already had the full meal though I've no recollection of it. This might account for the weight gain: it's all psychological. Or do you think I'd better start counting the pillows every morning?

We had a great time with our UK visitors eating out every night (and most mornings for breakfast too) and the weight stacked on. Groan. I show no self control when presented with a breakfast menu. Somehow I always end up ordering pancakes or bacon or both. In the evening I am even worse because then I have a glass of wine in my hand as I make my choice. I weighed myself the morning after our guests left and my weight had gone up to 81.2 kg. Pretty appalling for a woman who is only 5 foot 3 / 1m 60 / knee-high to a duck in her socks.
We celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary on 1st Feb and then went into our annual shutdown. No alcohol, no crisps, no ice-cream (sob) no eating out for the entire month. Lots of healthy fruit and veg type stuff. I may have to supplement Jim's diet with body-building milkshakes or something though because four days off the Guinness and he's already dropped 2kg he couldn't afford to lose. That's probably grounds for divorce, come to think of it.
