Thought for the day: If work was so good the rich would have kept more of it for themselves.

Yes, I am on holiday and loving it. Just staying at home and doing nothing is bliss. Of course, I have taken the opportunity to exercise regularly and eat healthily. Are all pigs fed, watered and ready to fly?....

I trust that you all had a very cheery Christmas. I had an extremely pleasant time, thank you for asking.

I have a lavish BBQ to attend shortly so I will leave you with two final thoughts:
When confronted with a difficult problem, you can solve it easily by reducing it to the question, "How would the Lone Ranger deal with this?" and "Tach Daq magham" which is, of course, Klingon for "We will meet in the cocktail lounge." Till then, go get an ice-cream and think of me.

This is the link to the USA Baskin and Robbins website. Compare the the Aus site below it. Here in Australia we are missing out on some really good flavours! Shall we start a campaign?

I've been studying the Baskin and Robbins website. Gotta make sure that I'm choosing the most nutritious flavours.

I had some interesting ice-cream this week. Baskin & Robbins have brought out a new flavour for Xmas: Very Berry Gingerbread. It's ginger ice-cream with chunks of gingerbread in it plus blueberry ribbons. Rather nice.

I have a guest staying who is proving to be a bad influence. Jim suggested a pub crawl round Freo. Guest suggested we begin with a visit to B&R... well OK then, if you insist. At the end of the evening she declined (yet) another beer (Little Creatures Pale Ale for those who are interested) and asked if there was anywhere open for a late night ice-cream. Well, I could only think of six places off the top of my head but that was sufficient and we toddled off for a very satisfactory 'night cap' of choc chip and cookie dough.

Somehow, I've managed to maintain last week's weight of 75.4 kg but a two week holiday is just beginning so I'm not optimistic about next week. Wish me luck.

I was looking at the graph of my dieting progress that I keep near my desk (yes, I do know how sad that sounds) and a pattern is very much in evidence. There was a steady drop of about nine kilos over the first few months then the graph plateaus between 75 and 76 kilos and all I've done for months is shuffle around on either side of that line.

Obviously I need to get my act together and plan a new assault but anyone starting a diet in December is either mad or Moslem so I decided that my goal over the festive period should be to stay under 76 kg and then start afresh in January. Sounds a bit more do-able than kidding myself that I'm going to even TRY and lose weight over Christmas.

I believe we have already debated and discounted the theory that chocolates brought to your home by guests and which have to be eaten out of courtesy don't count in a daily calorie total. A pity.

I've been off the diet for a week now. Glorious! However, the damage done in this short time has set me back months on the progress chart. Worse, the end is not in sight. No sooner did one set of guests depart than another arrived. The perfect excuse to push the low fat yoghurt to the back of the fridge and open a packet of crisps. AND IT'S NOT EVEN CHRISTMAS YET!

A quick check revealed that lying down, reading a book, having a nap and watching television don't burn enough calories to justify a second scoop.
