At last a holiday. Hooray. Managing to hang onto my job by my fingernails and wondering if it's worth the effort. Probably, think of the the money, honey.

Blood pressure still too high, alas.

So it's coming up for the anniversary of when the doc told me I should lose some weight to benefit my blood pressure. I confidently agreed to try to lose five kilos over the following six months but here we are a year later and I am actually a kilo heavier. I know dieting doesn't work, but NOT dieting doesn't work either. As for all those lifestyle changes they recommend, (use the stairs at work, switch to low-fat milk etc) I embraced those decades ago. Doubtless I'd be the size of a house (as opposed to merely a cottage) by now if I hadn't.

I currently have as my bedside reading the Reader's Digest "Change One" diet book. A slightly water damaged paperback edition I got for $5 off EBay. The basic premise is that you make only one change to your diet and stick with that for a week. Then you continue with that and make another change etc. Unfortunately, you have to do more than just READ the book for it to have an effect but I'm working up to it.

On a brighter note, I did read recently that having thighs which are too thin is a risk factor for having a heart attack. I'm in no danger there, anyway.

Hi there! Long time no post. I know and as usual I'll apologize and waffle on (hmm, waffle.. sorry, a Homer Simpson moment there) about how busy I am at work and how little weight I've lost since my last post. And if you're lucky I'll tell you about my current favourite ice-cream.

Er, well, yes, so apologies to all. Except that by now I am sure even my most loyal reader will have decamped to worthier and more reliable blogs leaving this as it was originally intended, as a private confessional for my dietary sins.

After 15 months of full time work I am starting to get the odd day off here and there and my workload is at last showing signs of decreasing so who knows maybe I'll be able to fit in some blogging. I can feel a diet coming on the way you know when you have a cold coming. You're not ill yet and you can fight it for a while but you know that in the long run there's no escape and you'd better be stocking up on Kleenex. So it is with me and the next diet. Time is running out.

Which of course, explains today's lapse at the ice-cream parlor. It wasn't that I really NEEDED an ice-cream, more that I could have one so naturally I did. Very nice it was too to sit in the weak winter sunshine at Cottesloe Beach with a cone of Tiramasu. Happy days.

Easter greetings to all. I just love all that readily available chocolate. All I can say about my weight is that it seems to remain stable. 20 kgs too heavy but very stable.

Current weight: still 77.3 kgs.

Has it really been so long since I lasted posted? Well, it's not like I've had any spectacular weight loss to record. Au contraire.

However, I was at the doc yesterday and he's not at all happy with my blood pressure or cholesterol. Of course, there are more tests to be conducted but we all know where that conversation is going eventually - do more exercise, eat less of what you like and more of what you don't like. Stroke? Heart attack? Angina? Maybe he can scare me into eating less chocolate.

Finally some weight loss to report. OK, it's probably the scales playing up again but I'm not about to complain. I think it's the hot flushes. They must speed up the metabolism.

I may have discovered a new way to to lose weight: go to see a Bollywood musical. Just as I can gain a kilo from being in the same room as a cream donut it seems that I can lose weight by watching energetic dancers. It was tiring just to watch the show but great fun. If you want to see if you can lose weight just by watching the trailer then check out the link below:

As expected the unemployment didn't last long. Not nearly long enough, in fact. I'm now working full time again despite my best efforts to remain part time. There's such a teacher shortage here that I took pity on them and agreed to six months of FT slavery.

It's not that I mind the work: I have lovely colleagues and delightful students. It's just that there's no time left over for the rest of my life. Lie-ins, afternoon movies and blogging have become nought but distant memories.

Exercise and any notion of a healthy diet were the first victims of the new regime, of course. I've even bought a microwave. I've heard you can get microwaveable pies now. Ain't progress wonderful?

I am now unemployed. Not for long though. I start a new job (same as the old job but in a more convenient location) on 5th May.

More importantly, Jim has created a new dessert for my entertainment. It consists of a large portion of Il Gelato's current favour of the month: Bounty gelato, with an additional Bounty bar chopped into small pieces lovingly arranged on the top. It's delicious.

As for my current weight that's difficult to say. When I stepped onto the scales it registered a loss of 3 kilos. Nice, but hardly plausible given the new dessert so I tried again and got a different but equally implausible reading. The third time said 78.4 so that might be right but it hardly inspires confidence. Jim tested it for me and he got the same (low) reading every time so I think the scales is just trying to annoy me.

G'day. Long time no see. Sorry. I've been busy. A combination of visitors, weddings and job hunting. I think the wedding season is now over but the visitors and job hunting are due to continue for a while yet.

I had no icecream to speak of all though February or March but I broke the drought today with a cone of Il Gelato's flavour of the month, Bounty. You know how I love that choc and coconut combination. So hard to resist - so I didn't.

I'll try to remember to keep you posted re my job prospects. In the meantime I'll leave you with some definitions:

Decafalon
(n.): The gruelling event of getting through the day
consuming only things that are good for you.
Flabbergasted , (adj.) appalled by discovering how much weight one has gained.
