Demented Dieter

It's been a good day all round today. It started off with a lie-in watching "The West Wing" in bed whilst eating a chocolate croissant. Pretty decadent, eh? Then it was round the corner to the dentist. Not usually a great way to start the day but it was just for a scale, clean and check-up. She commented that my gums were lovely and firm. Now, it's been some years since anyone described any part of my body as 'lovely and firm' so I was well pleased. Doubly so when she said I didn't need any further work done, patted me on the head and sent me off with a free toothbrush and some dental floss.

As Jim had planned to spend the day playing golf, I took the train into town and went to the movies with a friend. We saw, "The Prestige" which was quite entertaining but the best part of the day was still to come. As we came out of the cinema we glanced wistfully at Baskin & Robbins opposite and found to our surprise that it seemed to be open for business. Of course, we decided to investigate further and - joy of joys - it had re-opened. It had changed hands, closed for a few days and then re-opened under new ownership. Better still, they had a huge vat of German Chocolate Cake waiting for me. I had a double scoop and was in heaven.

So that's settled then. It'll have to be the new wardrobe. I can't face dieting so I'll have to go shopping and buy some new clothes.

I paid a final visit to Subi B&R. It was the last day before they shut up shop for good and their supplies were somewhat depleted so I made do with a scoop of my old favourite, cookies and cream. It looks like another year is going to go by without being able to obtain any German chocolate cake.

My weight continues to rise. I am at a dangerous point in the dieting year. The point where you eat what you like (but never fail to feel guilty about it) knowing that pretty soon you're going to have to get serious again or else buy a whole new wardrobe.

Christmas is coming. The goose is getting fat. And he's not alone.

A pleasant day. I met up with a former student who needed me to do some writing for him. With unemployment imminent I can't afford to be working for free so I charged him my usual consultancy rate of one scoop of top quality ice-cream. I went for the Maple Syrup and Walnut flavour as I felt in need of more sweetness in my life.

During a conversation with the manager I was horrified to learn that the shop (Subi Baskin and Robbins) is soon closing down forever. Sunday will be its last day of trading. I have to wonder if I am responsible since I started splitting my trade between them and Il Gelato.
