BBC NEWS | UK | England | Devon | Six injured as ferry hit by storm
My mum was on this ferry on her way to Spain for a holiday. The weather was so rough that windows were smashed and decks flooded. Luckily, she'd never got round to watching Titanic so she remained calm. They were diverted to France and sent overland by coach.
All these years she's been watching disasters on the news and worrying about me just coz I was in the same hemisphere. Finally the boot is on the other foot and I get to worry about her for a change.

I am pleased to report that there has been no more wildlife in the attic. Make a note, people, possums don't dig reggae.
Thought for the day: There is nothing so agonizing to the fine skin of vanity as the application of a rough truth. -Edward Bulwer-Lytton, writer (1803-1873)Hmm, I gotta say, I ain't getting any thinner.

Wildlife of Sydney - Fact File - Common Brushtail Possum
Bats in the belfry? No, but we do have possums in our attic. We were woken up at four o'clock this morning by heavy steps and a clawing noise coming from overhead. Jim stood naked on a chair and banged on the ceiling. It was a sight to behold but the possum was not intimidated. Then Jim had a bright idea. One of the 'smart house' features is a sound system with speakers hidden in the roof. Jim gave the beast a quick blast of loud reggae and, sure enough, it scuttled off. Or maybe it had just gone to fetch its friends for a party....

You can just read last week's remarks again. This week was just the same. Including the dentist. Growl. I'm supposed to be working part-time. I've realised lately that part-time actually means paid part-time, not working part-time.

A few words of wisdom from my favourite poet to start us off today. There is only one way to achieve happiness on this terrestrial ball, and that is to have either a clear conscience or none at all. -Ogden Nash, author (1902-1971)
I'd love to tell you all about the interesting things I've done this week but
a) I haven't done anything interesting, I've just worked all the time -except when I was at the dentist, and
b) I don't have time to write anyway coz I've got more bloody work to do.

The weather hasn't been too great just lately. Except when I've been at work. Then, it's been simply spiffing. I have been forced to observe the sunshine through the window, over the heads of slogging students. I'd promised myself a nice walk at the weekend (OK, I'll admit it was to the ice-cream shop) but the elements refused to cooperate.
So, that's probably why the weight climbed a little this week even though I finally got rid of the last of my curls. The joys of a new haircut. "It takes years off you" said a friend. Perhaps, but not enough. 49 and a half down to 47 and three quarters somehow fails to impress. It's not going to make me look 22 again, is it?
"So you'll look like a boy." my mum commented from the safe distance of another hemisphere. She prefers my hair long. A boy? With this figure and these wrinkles? I wish.
Current weigh 76.8 kg. (or it could have been 76.0 - I couldn't really see clearly without my specs on and I wasn't gonna put them on coz they're too heavy!)

A fairly dull day at work: blasted them with tests. The old teacher standby.
No time for any fancy lesson preparation, I've been too busy. Jim has been ill all week and so I've been forced to fend for myself in the kitchen. A week of tomato and salad cream sandwiches. No long walks either. Without Jim to drag me out of the door and into the sunshine I stay locked up with my computer viewing beaches via webcam. Far more civilized and the sand doesn't get between your toes.
I'm pleased to report that after a week at death's door, Jim was well enough to get up, clean the house and make a shepherd's pie today. And he's been summoned to work tomorrow. Hope it doesn't give him a relapse.
Note the drop at the scales. Perhaps I should market this diet?
