It was SO hot today. I reckoned it was cheaper to go the pictures than run the aircon at home so I went to see Brokeback Mountain. It was good. Very romantic. The praise it's had from the critics is well-deserved. I was quite stunned, though, coming out of the cinema to find myself on an Aussie high street. I was so absorbed by the story that I somehow expected to be in Wyoming at the end of the show.
I lunched on popcorn. Highly nutritious, I'm sure.
Speaking of nutrition, I completed an online survey yesterday about Kraft microwave cheesy noodles. Yes, indeed, I DO need to get out more. And I will. February is coming to a close. Friends are hovering with fattening invitations. The bubbly is on ice already. Champagne may not be exactly customary on Saint David's Day but I'll be celebrating the occasion with great gusto heedless of tradition.
My alcohol-free month has resulted in a two kilo weight drop since the end of January. Hooray.

A week of no alcohol, no cheese, no crisps and (sob) NO ICE-CREAM...but no weight loss. In fact, a weight gain. Must have been the half a loaf of Turkish bread I ate on Sunday plus the delicious Fudge Temptation Kit Kat I consumed (very slowly) on Saturday.

Just before our alcohol-free month began we went out to a Japanese restaurant to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. I mention this because I forgot to tell you about the ice-creams we had for dessert. The green tea ice-cream was pleasant enough and tasted exactly like green tea. The ginger ice-cream was positively firey and to be avoided unless you really love ginger (luckily, I do) but to die for was the sesame ice-cream. I dislike sesame seeds, they always end up everywhere but in your mouth and I disapprove of this fad for coating bread rolls with sesame or (worse still) poppy seeds but in sesame ice-cream we have a winner. Make a note.

It's not my fault I'm fat. It's not because I'm an idle git who loves chocolate. It's just that I don't wash my hands enough.
Scientists have found evidence to suggest that certain forms of obesity could come from a virus and be contagious in the same way as the common cold. Researchers looking into this theory have revealed that simply washing your hands could be a preventative measure to avoid obesity. This rudimentary practice could improve the lives of millions around the world. This unlikely proposition was made by Dr. Leah Whigham of the University of Wisconsin. She determined that a human virus, called adenovirus AD-37, causes obesity in chickens and could be responsible for the similar condition in humans. She said: “The nearly simultaneous increase in obesity in most countries is difficult to explain by changes in food intake and exercise alone, and suggest that adenoviruses could have contributed.”
Maybe April 1st came early this year.
