I think I'm losing it. I NEED more chocolate in my diet. It's obvious that deprivation plays tricks with my mind. As we were driving into Freo today I saw a large sign over a local restaurant saying (or so I thought)
Balsa Night Every Friday!
It immediately created visions of balsa wood model enthusiasts gathering every week to compare notes on the correct construction for a Sopwith Camel or the exact shade of grey to paint a Spitfire.
Jim sighed, "I think you'll find it says SALSA night!
Right. I knew that.

Thought for the day: They told me I'd lose my mind as I got older... they didn't say how little I'd miss it.
Jim cooked a variety of curries for a dozen people yesterday in order to road test the new cooker. It passed with flying colours. The new cooker got its first battle scar too. Jim dropped a glass casserole lid and it chipped the corner of the cooker as it fell. An inch to the left and bye-bye ceramic hob. Phew! I've dabbed the chip with Tippex and it doesn't notice at all unless you look closely (and who the hell ever looks closely at the corner of a cooker?)
I've just taken delivery of the complete boxed set of Star Trek: the Next Generation Series 4. So that's put paid to any chance of returning to weight watchers for the foreseeable future. Not to worry I lost 400 gms this week.
Current weight: 76.4 kg.

The cooker finally arrived on Friday afternoon so I was spared a weekend of take-aways. (Damn!) What I didn't realise, never having bought a cooker before, (and being a bit thick) is that they don't just plug in like other appliances, they have to be professionally installed. D'oh! So I spent the afternoon chatting to cheery electricians who presumably didn't present me with a bill on the spot in case I turned the power back on prematurely out of spite.
Anyway, wouldn't you say that the combination of enforced take-aways and the need to rest brought on by a stinking cold this week would be the perfect excuse for some serious weight gain? Indeed... and yet, I actually LOST a little this week. I could be on to something here.

"I'll have the salad please."
"No, thank you."
"Oh, no, I never eat bread before a meal, I would hate to spoil my appetite."
"Could I have the fish with a tomato salad instead of chips?"
"Dessert? I couldn't possibly, I'm far too full."
"Thank you, but no. I find cheese gives me indigestion."
That's me practising in front of the mirror ready for the next time I eat out. Instead of my usual, "Pile it high and keep it coming" approach.
I actually have a good excuse for eating out. The cooker is keeping the old bed company on the verge outside the house awaiting rubbish collection and the new cooker is somewhere on the Nullarbor. They didn't have the one we wanted in stock so it's being brought over from Adelaide.

I've been in a foul mood all week due to lack of essential nutrients such as ice-cream and chocolate. I'm hoping to be in a better temper this week as my body adjusts to the deprivation. So long as nobody mentions the word 'photocopier' I should be fine.
Jim has undertaken the bold step of ordering a new bed for the spare room in honour of his parents' arrival next month. Then he got carried away and ordered a new cooker as well. The one we inherited with the house is certainly no prize. For my part in this spending spree I put forward a convincing case for a DVD player in the bedroom. It was either that or a gym membership so there was really no need for an extended debate.
