ACLU - Pizza

This was a laugh if you don't mind the time it takes to load.

Blogger say you can now add photos to the blog so I thought I should try it. In response to requests for pictures of Mauritius, here's one of Grande Baie. A delightful spot. A picture of me? I think not. I'll put a picture of me when I reach a size ten. (Don't hold your breath guys, it could take a while)

So, it's Monday and I have to make good on my promise to cook dinner. "Bangers and mash with onion gravy" has been requested. Perhaps I should add a side salad to make it seem healthier.

I have a new project. When I tell you about it you will doubtless throw up your hands in horror and say, "Well that's not going to help your weight loss campaign one little bit." I've decided it is my duty to support local businesses by trying out all the eateries within easy walking distance of the house. Good plan, eh?

How did this come about? Jim is currently working full time escorting groups of overseas airforce cadets on shopping tours around the city on the pretext of teaching them some English. As you can imagine this is quite an energetic task. In an effort to be supportive and share the household chores that normally fall to him I (foolishly) volunteered to prepare dinner on Mondays and Thursdays. I begged for a microwave but Jim claims there is no space for one in the kitchen. I reckon it's just a matter of priorities and if he'd just shift that hulking great cooker to the shed there would be plenty of room. My fallback position is to eat out on Thursdays. Hence the project.

Our first Thursday out was to the Chinese restaurant on the corner. We've eyed the place suspiciously for years, convinced it was a front for the Mafia or CIA. There are no windows and you never see anyone going in or out. We pushed open the heavy front door with trepidation and stepped back 20 years. Did you ever catch a B movie on late night TV that was so awful you couldn't stop watching? Well that's what this was like. The experience was so excruciating and the food so dire that you couldn't help but sit back and laugh, at least once the nausea had passed. I'm hoping for somewhere a little more up-market next week.

Il Gelato Premium Italian Style Icecream

The link for Il Gelato. Check it out yourself.

I don't suppose I can get away with blaming the hair two weeks running. Nobody can grow 400 gms of hair in less than a week. It must be my new delight: gelato. That's Italian ice-cream and it comes in wonderful flavours like 'Bacio,' (the chocs that come wrapped in blue and silver paper and taste divine) white chocolate with coconut or profiterole with dark chocolate. The sign in the shop says it has 50% less fat than premium ice-cream so I have the perfect excuse to eat twice as much.

Current weight: 77.8... but I blame the hair. It has taken my purchase of a hairdrier as permission to grow wildly. And it's very thick, heavy hair. Yes, heavy! I'm sure that accounts for the otherwise inexplicable increase in my weight this week.

The smart house has received a new door handle, front door lock and three new taps as a reward for being good and not locking anyone out this week. May I take this opportunity to suggest to those of you thinking of sending your children to university that a more lucrative career might involve work as a plumber, locksmith or electrician.

I had to ditch the 32 little pills a day. They gave me headaches. It seems that I can't take that much yang. I'm very sensitive. The acupuncturist gave me some new pills. Then phoned up before I got home and left a message saying that on no account was I to take the pills after all. I didn't need much persuading.

The new glasses have arrived. Feel free to stop me in the street and comment on how modern I look.

Readers of my previous blog (the furry blue slipper selection) will, of course, remember the notorious GI Jane haircut I was given 18 months ago. Well, that put me off hairdressers for a while so I've been sort of growing my hair. It's not that I have any strong desire for long hair. It's more the apathy factor combined with fear of hairdressers and the damn expense of regular grooming. Gotta say though that now it's down past my collar it's getting a bit unruly and it takes ages to dry. My previous tactic of winding the car window down on the way to work and calling it a blow dry is now resulting in some styles not often seen outside the circus ring. I may have to purchase a hairdryer for the first time in my life. Not many western women make it to 49 without having ever owned a hairdryer but then not many make it to 48 before they buy their first sofa. I've just had other priorities, that's all. Rest assured you will be kept fully informed of my decision in this matter.
