Thought for the day: "Happy is said to be the family which can eat onions together. They are, for the time being, separate, from the world, and have a harmony of aspiration." -Charles Dudley Warner, My Summer in a Garden, 1871

I bought a pair of jeans today. The first pair I've owned for yerz n yerz. OK, they were a size 16 but they fit, mostly, apart from being about 30 cms too long in the leg. Stilts might be the answer but I don't think I've time to master the art. Luckily I have a 20% off voucher for the local alterations shop and should just about have time to get that organized before I head for UK in April. Oh, didn't I say? That's why I need warm clothing e.g. jeans, I don't trust the weather to be springlike.

In other news, it looks like we'll be moving house the week before the holiday. Bad planning or what? Guaranteed to increase the stress levels and have me hitting the comfort food. Especially as the warehouse in London where they stored the Star Trek mags I like has burned down causing an unacceptably long delay in distribution. I blame those Babylon Five fanatics myself, they don't like the competition.

Current weight: 76 kg

I feel that my suffering and deprivation (i.e. yet another week of staying in, eating healthily and not drinking alcohol or eating ice-cream) should have been rewarded with a much greater drop on the scales. My body readily conserves fat and parts with it only reluctantly. I suppose it should be some small consolation to me that I would do well in times of famine. I know what needs to be done but if exercise is the answer then I prefer to ignore the question.

I managed to resist pancakes on Shrove Tuesday but that was mostly because I had forgotten about it.

A friend emailed telling me about the roses, chocs and champagne she received this morning. I got breakfast in bed with an episode of Star Trek but as Jim had no idea it was Valentine’s Day I don’t know if I should give him double credit or none. Let’s be generous, eh? He was never one for Hallmark holidays. Lucky for him neither am I.

It's been two weeks of no alcohol and no meals out. A weightwatchers Caramel Dream has replaced the preferred Baskin and Robins double chocolate chip and cookie dough. My own personal non-denominational Lent / Puasa / Ramadan. This supreme effort has been rewarded by only a slight drop on the scales. Perhaps I should have approached it with purer motives than the desire to fit into a pair of Levis next winter.

I have been eating healthily (apart from DIEt Coke - I need some excitement in my life!) for five days now and it doesn't seem so difficult. All you have to do is stay in and not see anybody. I wonder if there is a dieter's equivalent of the witness protection programme. I could re-invent myself as a teetotal, vegan, recluse who definitely does NOT have a sweet tooth and is allergic to crisps and ice-cream. On the subject of teeth I should mention that mine have gone black. I've become addicted to Licorettes - Licorice flavoured sugar free sweeties.
