Round about April time when I first thought of dieting (that is when I ceased to stroll and began to waddle and dieting could no longer be delayed) I decided I would diet until Jim's brother arrived from UK in December. That being many months down the track, surely I would be as skinny as a stick by then. Dream on.
So here we are in December, Jim's brother arrived on Saturday. I have been off the diet for two days AND I'VE ALREADY GAINED A WHOLE KILO! Having spent the entire day on my feet at the wildlife park feeding kangaroos I thought I deserved to have lost a little but it was not to be.
We finished the day with a trip to Freo. I nearly missed the train. My ticket came out of the machine just as the train arrived. At the same instant a gust of wind caught it and blew it down the platform into a hole being dug solely to annoy me. Jim jammed his foot in the train door while passengers shouted abuse and encouragement in equal measure. His swift action gave me time to stretch under the barrier, grab the ticket and heave myself (albeit in a very unladylike manner) onto the train.
There was no alternative but to calm myself with a trip to Baskin & Robbins and a scoop of honey butter baclava flavoured ice-cream. It was probably the low-cal version though, don't you think?
Current weight: 75.8 kg

You win some you lose some. I knew I shouldn't have had a sausage sandwich for tea yesterday. Current weight 74.8 kg.

Is there an emoticon for a flabby, middle-aged woman punching the air in victory? There probably is but I don't know it and I'm guessing you don't either so we'll all have to made do with a written description of my elation plus a smiley face :-)
Despite a large and delicious Vietnamese meal on Saturday night, I have lost weight. I'm now down to 74.4 kg.
So how did I celebrate this achievement? With a large scoop of New Zealand Natural chocolate fudge brownie ice-cream.

I was so annoyed, I ate a beef and Guinness pie with chips for lunch.

Sunday, for those indifferent to religion, a day of rest and relaxation. It’s gorgeous weather, the first hot day of the season. Which makes me wonder why I spent the morning analyzing a journal article about the future of accountancy and independent auditing in the People’s Republic of China. (Believe me, it’s not as much fun as it sounds) DEP (the course I currently teach) texts are not the sort you can just flick through as the students do the exercise and then make up the answers on the spot.
At 11.30 we headed for the station, bought tickets to Freo and waited for the train. We’d have been waiting still had not a foreigner with better English comprehension skills than us pointed out a sign saying that due to work on the line no trains were running till tomorrow. Bah! Back home to get the car. We drove to the pub where I was then obliged to sit for an hour sipping diet cokes waiting for our friends to show. They had also been caught out by the public transport debacle. So where is all this leading? It’s by way of an excuse for stuffing my face with fish and chips for Sunday lunch. I’m preparing you, dear reader, for the certain news that when I weigh-in tomorrow I won’t have lost any weight.

Yeah, it's the same as last week. Obviously, I didn't try hard enough. It was probably the killer nasi goreng (fried rice) on Thursday.
