Current weight 74.8 kg

Back on track. And I owe it all to Gay Pride. Having spent two days on sushi and vegetable soup my weight loss campaign was doing well but disaster was looming in the form of Lamb Korma. We had planned to meet friends in the city for a curry on Saturday night. Now I love Indian food but everyone knows that in its western incarnation it is the highest calorie cuisine available. Especially as I can never resist the naan bread. So when we discovered that 70,000 colourfully dressed folk were expected to be marching down the very street we planned to dine on we realised that we were never going to be able to find a place to stand, let alone park or eat.As a result we ended up consuming (slightly) fewer calories at our favourite Greek restaurant elsewhere. They claim 'local goat' is the house signature dish but they have yet to show us exactly where on Rokeby Road the animals are raised. Anyway, I'll be sticking to salad, won't I?

Yesterday I took my search for German Chocolate Cake ice-cream to the store in Freo. Alas, in vain. I consoled myself with a scoop of Bavarian Silk Chocolate Chunk. Well, I had six points available for lunch and it was either that or a bowl of salad the size of Wembley stadium. No competition.

And today? Some days just drift by without you actually being able to achieve anything. I went into work to do some photocopying but the machine was broken (yet again) so I went to buy an ink cartridge for my printer. Out of stock (yet again) so I strolled round a clothes store and thought about what I might like to buy if reincarnation turns out to be true and I come back as a size 8 supermodel. There sure as hell wasn't anything that would fit me in this lifetime.

Current weight: 76 kg.

I had a bit of a disappointment at Baskin and Robins this week. Hard to believe, I know. I had been reliably informed that my all-time favourite flavour (German chocolate cake) would be available during October when B&R always do an Oktoberfest celebration but when I asked for it I found it had already been and gone. AND I MISSED IT SOMEHOW! It transpired that the woman in charge of organizing the festival had resigned and that her replacement is in the process of being trained-up. As she is still new to the job it was thought that Oktoberfest would be a bit much for her so it was cancelled. I can't believe I've gotta wait a whole year now till it comes round again.

I realised this week, as I sat chatting to a friend over a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough that I would probably be a lot slimmer if I were friendless. My problems occur when I eat out. A few glasses of wine and suddenly the dessert menu seems like a good idea. Oh well, so long as I starve myself the rest of the time it should all balance out in the end. Actually, at the weekend I tried to be good and ordered a salad with my steak but we were in a small country town outside of Perth and they couldn't believe that anyone wouldn't really want chips with their steak so they gave me chips anyway. Did I sent them back? Er, no. I ate them. Every single one. Sigh.

Yeah, yeah, I know I'm late posting. I was away from home first thing on Monday morning and there was no way I was going to use a different set of scales. I couldn't possibly trust them. By the time I got home I had already eaten breakfast (poached eggs, nothing evil) so decided that was a good enough excuse to postpone the weigh-in for a day. Current weight: 76 kg At least it's moving in the right direction again.

The weather is changing here and spring is in the air. Before long I am going to look pretty silly in my winter clothes (OK, sillier) but I don't have any summer ones. Most of my work clothes were ritually burned on leaving Brunei and I survived last summer (on the road, as you may recall) on two pairs of shorts and some ancient t-shirts. While I am never going to impress my classes with my fashion sense, I do at least try to look tidy so a trip to the shops was called for.

As a woman of wealth, taste and discernment I, of course, headed for my local Target store. For those of you unfamiliar with Aussie retailers let me say that this is a shop full of high class merchandise and keenly intelligent assistants. (I trust those of you who are familiar with Aussie retailers will keep your mouths shut and allow me to weave the fantasy.) I scoured the female clothing department in vain. Every pair of trousers(dresses? me? I don't think so) was cut on the hip with three-quarter length legs. Now that may look good if you are a tall, willowy type with no belly but it's going to look pretty silly on a flabby, short-arse such as yours truly. Rather than go home empty-handed I bought a pair from the menswear section. Nicer, cheaper and as the sizing is incomprehensible you don't have to wonder if they're a 14, 16, 18...
